Finished doors for greenhouse and

Finished doors for greenhouse and added another level of dirt to potatos. Good weather should make next week more productive. AJ

My Babies :)

After spending a good 3 weeks painting Herb Baskets I have now moved on to actually planting herbs!  It is so cool to see them grow!  After a week in Philadelphia Lindsey and I returned to see our plants at least an inch taller.  We have around 9 Herb pots and we have 2 actual Herb Baskets!  All 12 of our containers have plants growing!  The tallest plants are about 4 inches high already and it's only been about 2 and a half weeks!  We also have 3 squares of Lettuce outside in our raised beds!  Lindsey and I have been watering and tending to our plants all week and we will be planting cucumbers next week!  I can't wait to see them grow :)  Too bad we'll be gone before they produce anything. :(

Dollar Bills Poppin' and Cold Weather Stoppin'!

After a cold vacation in Philly last week, it is back to the grind in the gardens at CCS. The tomatoes are looking better after we removed the mysterious mold, but they are still not completely healthy again. It is already April and school will be ending soon, so I started to research plant prices for the farmer's market which will be beginning soon. Funds for the Horticulture class are much needed and I am looking forward to the warm weather and the dollar bills flowing as our hard work this year pays off!

I like plants.

Okay, so this week Michelle and I watered all of our herb baskets and pots. So far we have been very successful with our plants! However, we have had the most trouble with the lavender, spearmint, and rosemary seeds...none of them have sprouted. :( We did some research to see why and were unable to find any information as to why they weren't sprouting. But we did research some foods that we could make using the herb and plants that we are growing in Horticulture. I would post my list on here...but my iPod's (where the information is) battery is dead. I will try to get the list posted sometime next week. Today, Michelle and I watered our plants and then went outside to check the growth of our Looseleaf Lettuce. Unfortunately, they are not growing very quickly compared to everyone else's plants in the raise bed. Mr. Hardin said that it could be because we planted right before the weather cooled down significantly a few weeks ago. We will just have to wait and see!

Composting! ...and Peppers

The composting buckets in the cafeteria.

Grace, Chloe, and I are finally done speaking with the grammar school about composting! We were actually quite pleasantly surprised by some of the students' explanation of composting, and happy to see all the excited participants we have now. We placed two buckets in the cafeteria and one in the teacher's lounge. We have been sorting through the buckets, then emptying them into the compost pile everyday and sometimes adding leaves and/or grass clippings. The massive amount of rain we have been getting has made our job of keeping the pile moist a whole lot easier...

Also, the pepper plants are looking perfect! I really hope they continue to be healthy after seeing what happened to the previously healthy tomato plants....

Our plants are growing!!

Thanks!

Thanks to the 5th graders who looked after our plants! They would have all died if it had not been for you all! :)

Can it be sunny please?

After a very fun and eventful week in Philadelphia, we are back to work. The Coleus Kaylyn and I are growing are doing great. Their leaves have started to get really big and also get different colors. Our lettuce is also doing really good. After nearly dying they all of a sudden have started to grow like crazy! Kaylyn and I must have some incredible skill. ;)

Kirstie, Nate, Kaylyn, and I finished making the door for the greenhouse. It isn't on the greenhouse yet, but I'm sure we will be putting it on there soon.

For the remainder of this week, Kaylyn and I will be looking after our coleus and lettuce, and I'm sure, doing working on something outside.
Yesterday in Horticulture I watered my pepper plants and checked on my Radishes. Both are growing splendidly. I can't wait for them to get bigger then they already are. Yesterday Rachel, Kaylyn, Nate, and I worked on the door for the greenhouse. It's finished and now all we have to do is put it on the greenhouse.

Back to work.

After a week in philly the upper schoolers are back home and caring for their plants. I moved all of my plants outside for the week and mrs. Balbuena's class looked after them. Seems they did an alright job. Pretty much all of the spinach has sprouted and are about an inch tall. The cauliflower looks pretty good. its turning purple. I'm not actually sure if thats a good thing or not. I know there is a purple variety so I'll just keep an eye on it for now. Adam agrees. Its raining so I'm pretty much done for the day.
My tomatoes are dying but i think i can save them.
