This is a picture of our hotbed if anyone is interested
This week Kirstie and I planted a second flat of peppers and kept them watered. I updated our classroom's planting calendar, and Grace, Chloe and I wrote a thank you note for my mom, and we cleaned the dry erase board. I watched Mr. Hardin properly transplant one of Jasmine's tomato seedlings, and helped a few people set up their phones so they can write a post to the blog from their cell phones. All in all it was a pretty successful week.

Hotbed glass and HPS light

ReStore finds. Glass 6'x2'1" for $12. We will need to build a frame; it might not fit for top, but we could use it for the front. Also found a 70 watt high pressure sodium $35.

~Today I got a few more people set up with text-posting from their cell phones to the blog, so now their names will show up when they post!~

Today has been lots of great fun but we've missed Mr. Hardin. I hope your kids feel better soon!
The finished pot!
The pot I am currently working on is going quite well. I have a nice country scene sketched on the pot including a tractor, a rooster, a windmill, and a barn. I plan on beginning the painting sometime tomorrow or next week. Pictures coming soon!!!

Get to work!

Working on the hot bed for the potatos

Technological success

Between the hours of nine and elevenish tonight I spent in slight frustration. As much as I love computers, they love to hate me back. I am happy to say that after a fairly long series of trial and error I was successful in putting a slideshow up :D. Due to the way i had to put it up it will not be accessible to all students. I will work on making it so, but in the mean time if you want to put a picture on it just send the picture to me at rjstewart22@gmail.com. Earlier today i ripped the posted photos off of the blog and tomorrow will be putting those up as well.
Today Grace, Chloe, and I updated the blog, wrote a thank you note on it and cleaned the dry erase board. We also observed Mr. Hardin transplanting a seedling.
Today I watered mine and Emily's pepper plants, then Rachel and I went about the school in search of more pots and baskets for our herbs. We came back very successful. We found 8 baskets and one pot. Tomorrow hopefully I'll be able to get some soil so that the herbs can be planted.

Today Lindsey, Michelle, and I worked on the herb baskets. We're nearly done with one and started a to sketch a design on another one. Tomorrow hopefully we can start planting some herbs.

While digging our hotbed, the guys came across this black, charcoal like, material scattered throughout the soil. Identity has yet to be determined. -Adam J.
Febuary 8th, 2011.
Today I saw that my tomatoes are still not growing and I was wondering what I should do with them. Mr. Hardin said wait till the 14th day and then lets see what happens. I watered it more than I usually do but I didnt soak the soil. So hopefully they grow soon. :)--Brentley
On Febuary 7th. 2011, the tomatoes started growing but they werent mine. I am a little worried so I watered it a little bit more than I usually do. Hopefully it sprouts tomorrow--Brentley
While Kirstie finished painting one of the pots, I began sketching a design on another one. We plan on doing a country meadow scene with a tractor and rooster in it. Michelle and I found a picture today in class that shows what we'd like to do with the pot (minus the buildings in the background). It should look awesome when we're finished!

Peppers

(As of yesterday we have two flats of peppers, and the flat we started yesterday we actually saturated the soil before planting, so we will see if there is any difference in growth between the two flats.) I watered the pepper plants today through the new method of filling a tray with water and putting the flat of peppers in the tray. It seems to be working much better than just spraying them with a spray bottle. I also edited the calendar we have in the classroom.

I fixed the lighting situation today on the germination chamber. -Jake
Yay! I transplanted my tomatoes today. I feel as if they are my babies, so I moved them with much care and gentleness. - Jasmine

Idea for HPS light for potato barrel

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore, closed at 5 today.  So, I wasn't able to pick up the light.  I did price some extension cords at Lowe's.  I thought we should splice a smaller cord for the light then plug it into our extension cord.  That way we are not ruining our 50 ft. extension cable, and can use it for other things.  Looks like we can get one for under $20.
Today Emily and I planted some more peppers and watered the ones we had planted before. I can't wait for them to start growing!!
Tomatoes are out of the ground! Better Boy Hybrid's as well as the Black Pearl Hybrids have sprouted. Luke
MY TOMATOES HAVE GROWN:) I have some that have sprouted to be about an inch long. -Jasmine
