Flowers, Herbs, Planting, and Such

This short week has been really productive for Michelle and I. We have planted every type of herb and flower in our baskets. Unfortunately, we ran out of the plastic labels; instead we used toothpicks (which apparently encourages mold). We are in need of some more plastic labels! Over the break, I will look for alternative ways to keep track of where each plant is growing.
Well, this week we finally received fertilizer and we experimented with a couple of the tomatoe plants. I decided to put toothpicks in mine as well as another student but later figured out that it causes mold. So we quickly took them out. Also we found another issue with our plants and we found out that we are watering them too much and they are starting to wilt and mine are getting yellow spots. So now we are not going to water them until Sunday. Hopefully that will make the plants better.

Lindsey with the herb pots! They look so good! (they'd better seeing as we spent a good three weeks on them!)
My tomatoes looked like they were dying, but I'm just watering them too much.
This week Grace, Chloe, Kody, and I finished our new power point presentation and practiced it for the grammar school chapel we hopefully will present to next week. We also added more water, paper, and leaves to the compost pile. Hopefully we will get some nutrient-rich dirt out of it by the end of the school year. Kirstie and I have beautiful pepper plants growing, and are exposing them to sunlight at least once a week for an hour or so.
This week Emily, Chloe, Kody, and I worked on our compost pile. We watered it Monday and Tuesday, and shredded up some more cardbord to put in it. The power point is completely finished (yay!), we went over it a few times, and we are ready to present it along with our posters to the grammar school during their next chapel. Wednesday we will hopefully get to talk during grammar school chapel, put up our posters, and set up our compost buckets. :) Oh and Chloe and I have been tending our Wave Petunias and they are doing great :)
It was a short week, so we were not able to make a tremendous amount of progress. However, our tomatoes began to wilt and the diagnosis was unknow, but with the help of research and Mr. Hardin we came to the conclusion that they were getting too much water. Mystery solved and now off to spring break!
