Welcome to the Covenant Classical Gardens! We have an exciting year ahead of us and our botany class will be taking advantage of the warm weather the Lord has provided us with! Our compost bin is now completed, and the greenhouse tables are under construction. A tiller was finally provided and we prepared the soil so we can begin planting our greens. Adam Jackson's orchard project has been completed and it is now our job to ensure that we maintain his work, and God's creation.

Okay, so, this week pretty much flew by! On Monday when we came back from break, Michelle and I were greeted with our greener and MUCH taller plants! The cucumbers are looking amazing...they have grown so much this past week. One problem we did notice was tiny white insects on our Zinnias. I did a little research and found that they could possibly be whiteflies, which tend to nest in greenhouses specifically on Zinnias. I read on a particular website that soapy water helps kill these insects; however, it only works on the adult bugs. Sometime next week, we need to treat the plants and see if it works.

Using to much water? Check this out!
Not a lot is going on since the end of the year is drawing to an end. It is especially close to an end for myself as well as the rest of the seniors and Mr. Hardin who will be departing on our senior trip on May 15th. However one last project that Jake Stewart, Adam Jackson, and I have completed and are continuing to revise, is a watering system that will collect water from the rain to fill out water barrel. The water barrel is located in our greenhouse. Currently the bucket is resting under the condensation hose of the AC unit and a watering hose transfers the water from the bucket to the greenhouse. It is collecting about two liters of water per minute. Moreover, our goal is to tie in one or more of the gutters to out hose to collect a maximum amount of water. Stay tuned for updates on our project and be sure to stop by and purchase plants for your home garden. The plants and flowers are going fats so hurry in!

Want to be creative? Take the Horticulture class!
Over Easter Break, Lindsey and I took it upon ourselves to make signs about the Horticulture sale going on every week day from 1-3 until the end of the semester! We spent a good five hours working on tracing, cutting, and pasting.
.....uh, yeah.
Yesterday Nate, Blake, Kody, and I filled up the water barrel that is in our greenhouse. Today, Kirstie and I are going to finish making our information cards for our plants.
The green ice lettuce which Kaylyn and I planted is doing great! Also, our coleus which were looking a little bad have started to look good again.
Come check out our plants from 1:00-3:00!

Milkshakes!!
Yesterday in Horticulture I helped fill some of the water buckets to fill the huge water bucket in the greenhouse. I also helped Lindsey and Michelle advertise our plant sale. I watered my pepper plants and my radishes. The radishes are huge and doing really well. All I have to do now is see when to harvest them and then figure out a selling price. The pepper plants are slowly getting better. They're beginning to perk back up, but they're still bleached and losing some of their leaves. They are doing better and hopefully soon will be good as new. Pictures are coming soon of the radishes, the flower box, pepper plants, and the three types of lilies Rachel and I have been potting and selling. Today Rachel and I will finish making information cards for the lilies and eat milkshakes.
