So, last week I put fertilizer on the plants and a couple grew a lot but now i am seeing fungus/moss so Im guessing I put to much water in it. Also two of my plants had deadly fungus in it so I had to separate those from the other good ones. But I think they are currently getting better.
Mrs. Balbuena class is going to take care of our plants so we will see how that turns out.
Welcome to the Covenant Classical Gardens! We have an exciting year ahead of us and our botany class will be taking advantage of the warm weather the Lord has provided us with! Our compost bin is now completed, and the greenhouse tables are under construction. A tiller was finally provided and we prepared the soil so we can begin planting our greens. Adam Jackson's orchard project has been completed and it is now our job to ensure that we maintain his work, and God's creation.

Hotbed
2/12/2011 - Over the past week me, Adam, and Wes have been digging a pit for a hotbed. A hotbed is essentially a 2-3 foot pit filled with manure. On top of that pit is a 6"-1' of soil. A enclosed structure is then placed over top of the pit to keep the heat in and the soil hot, however it takes a couple days (supposedly) for the heat in the hotbed to get down enough so as to not kill the plants. We have extended the bottom of the pit around another foot so we can add rocks to the bottom of the pit to work as a drain (I don't have exact dimensions of the pit yet). This past week we finished digging the pit and hopefully we will have some plants in and growing by the end of the week. I would also like to thank the couple people that would occasionally help us in the dig and anyone that allowed us to use their equipment for this.
Week of the Feb 21 - We obtained some very large pieces of wood courtesy of Mr. Jackson. These are so act as the sides for the hotbed and are arranged in a box around it with the front side being shorter than the back so as to let in the maximum amount of sunlight. We also have window panes to go on top of the hotbed. The only thing that is now needed is horse manure to work as a compost inside the hotbed to heat it up.
3/18/2011 - A layer of soil has been put over the top of the manure in the hotbed. We started covering some of the gaps in the frame with the clay that we removed when digging out the hotbed. The clay will act as an insulter versus putting wood over the gaps. The frame has been completely fixed and the final this to do is just add the windows to the top.
